One of Janet Hundt’s favorite places is the Hofstra pool during summer camp. She helps run the pool with Danna. Together, they assign staff to groups for lessons. “We help campers feel more comfortable in the water,” she said. “We provide tips to help to teach swimming. We make sure everyone is safe at the pool.
Swimming is a very important skill to learn.
“We are very fortunate to live on Long Island, where we have many many beaches and rivers,” said Hundt. “They provide numerous opportunities to participate in water activities. Knowing how to swim makes it possible to safely enjoy boating and swimming.”
“I enjoy swimming with Cubbies,” she says. “I like to give ‘tips’ to help improve swimming stokes.”
Tips that she shares are relax, slow down, breathe and be aware.
Her other job …
When Janet is not at the pool, she teaches Pre-K at a New York City Early Education Center, The Lutheran School on Bell Blvd. She also volunteers for the Girl Scouts.
“In my spare time I like to read, go camping, cook and, of course, go swimming and boating,” she said.
